Jujuy and the wonderful Aldea Luna

So we bused over to San Salvador de Jujuy and stayed a night there before we were picked up and brought to the magnificent nature reserve Aldea Luna where we WWOOFed for just over two weeks. WWOOF = World Wide Organization of Organic Farming. So basically you help the owners work the land, and in exchange you get food, board and a wealth of knowledge and experience. Aldea Luna is breathtaking. Everyday we water the gigantic garden, plant seeds, prepare the soil for summer... All while overlooking the Andes! We can see the Chilean border! We are at an altitude of about 1500m. The work is not too physically demanding in the garden, but walking up and down the mountain everyday is quite the workout! Then we help in the kitchen... It's a completely vegetarian farm, and all the food we make is so healthy. Nothing but REAL ingredients. We make salad with veggies from the garden... Bread with just water, flour, yeast and a bit if salt (kneading is HARD)... Cake with bananas and freshly picked eggs... I could go on about the food forever. But the chicos here are digging trenches, cutting down trees, building houses, plowing space for corn... I'm happy to be in the garden :) Oh but I did get to cut down some small trees for trellis' with a machette... Totally ready for Survivor :) We have learned so much from Elizabeth about gardening, cooking, sustainability and life in general. Elizabeth and Martin are the owners... Incredible couple. We spent the afternoons doing yoga, going on hikes, sunbathing, drinking mate or cerveza, making necklaces, listening to music, reading, bathing in the stream, playing with the dogs (they have six amazing pups), playing chess, uno, clue... Really anything we felt like!
Definitely a life experience I won't soon forget! And I plan to take many practices home!

We ended our time in Argentina in Salta. Really nice city... But the best part was Cafayate! I haven't posted the pictures yet, but this place is unreal. Beautiful mountains and rock formations! The mountains are also different colours because of the different minerals. Breathtaking.

Adios Argentina! Hola Bolivia!

  1. Last week, I went to a place called Vegreville. Their claim to fame is "A GIANT EGG!" I saw it and was unimpressed.
Long story short... your trip is way better than mine.

    Cordially,
